MOSOP sends notice of self-governance to FG

Factional leader of Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo, has said his group had written to notify President Goodluck Jonathan of its recent declaration of political autonomy for the Ogoni area.

According to Diigbo, the correspondence to the President outlined funding sources and other options to enforce the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous people.

He said: “Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was sent a notification and consultative advisory, which outlines Nigeria’s mandatory obligations to enforce the Ogoni Self Government Declaration.” He added that the notification was sent to the President on August 7.

“The mandatory obligations sent to the presidency constituted Notification, Consultative Advisory and Early Warning, requiring urgent actions for peaceful resolution on specific procedures expected of President Jonathan’s administration,” he said.

It will be recalled that Diigbo had, on August 2, declared self government for Ogoni area. According to him, the action did not amount to secession.
