Ekiti polytechnic lock out Rector

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSANIP) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, on Friday locked out the Rector of the institution, Mrs Theresa Akande and other staff to protest non-payment of their allowances. The protesting workers commenced an indefinite industrial action on Friday May 8 to press home their demands, threatening to unseat the Rector for her alleged high-handedness.
According to Monday Jegede, the National Secretary of SSANIP, chief among the workers grievances are, the alleged `hard stance’ of the Rector on the payment of 60 months’ arrears of industrial Field trip allowance to the workers, depriving the workers of their duty and hazard/high risk allowances despite the directive by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) that they should be paid and the `incessant overseas trips’ of the management staff which he claimed that the Polytechnic was not financially buoyant to foot.
The Rector of the institution, Mrs Theresa Akande said the Federal Government had not approved the payment of the said allowances.
Akande said the Minister of Education had informed her that the Federal Government does not have the budget to pay 60 months arrears of the workers’ field trip allowance as demanded by them.

US arrests 190 in child p*rngraphy crackdown

Police have arrested 190 people in a major US crackdown on child p*rnography, officials say.
The month-long "Operation Orion" also resulted in 18 children being rescued, federal agents said.
Arrests were made mostly in the US but also took place in countries including Spain, Argentina, the UK and the Philippines.
The official in charge said many of the cases began with a child chatting with someone they had encountered online.
"Let this operation be a warning to anyone who would think they can use the internet to exploit children - we are out there looking for you, we will find you, and you will be prosecuted," Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton said in a statement.
The statement said that Operation Orion focused on the production, possession and distribution of child pornography in videos and photographs.
Those arrested included a 35-year-old babysitter in Louisiana suspected of using a seven-year-old child to make pornography.
A 28-year-old man in Michigan was found to have more than 1,200 images and 109 videos of suspected child pornography on computers and media storage devices, officials said.
Eight men were also arrested in Los Angeles, including one who met his alleged 12-year-old victim on the internet.
He was charged with enticing a minor to commit lewd acts after agents pretended to be the girl online and arranged to meet him at a shopping centre.
The ICE statement said that they had also "identified and rescued" 18 victims of child pornography.
No details were given of the arrests conducted abroad. The US Justice Department also listed Sweden, Serbia and the Netherlands as involved in the operation.
US Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer said in a statement: "This operation uncovered a dangerous and depraved group of criminals who were devoted to trading sexually explicit images of children under the age of five."

Dana admits ill-fated plane had engine failure

Officials of Dana Airline, owners of the ill-fated plane yesterday confirmed that it had engine failure based on the pilot’s distress calls to the control tower at about 2:42 pm. The airline also disclosed that there was likelihood that relations of the dead passengers may start claiming their corpses today.

The director flight operations, Captain Oscar E. Watson, told journalists during a press briefing in Lagos yesterday that the pilot reported engine failure but it was not certain whether it was a double engine failure until the flight recordings in the Black Box were accessed.

“There is no confirmation that we had twin engine failure but the pilot reported engine failure. It’s not certain that both engine failed. It is just speculation. But based on the standard of training pilots, the pilot can say I have engine one or engine two failure. Probably the pilot said engine two had failed, or call May Day.

Thus, until we listen to the recordings, we cannot say exactly. We should be careful with wrong information spewing across the country,” he said.

‘I can't do without s*x daily' - 10yr old sexually abused girl confesses

A 10-year old girl who was a victim of sexual abuse has made a shocking confession, saying that she cannot do without having s*x with men daily.
She narrated how an old man, who was their neighbour at Mile 12, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, lured her into s*x at seven and since then she cannot resist having s*x everyday. The primary two pupil said if she did not see any man to have s*x with her in her area, she would go to a popular under bridge at Mile 12 Lagos and beg for s*x from touts.

She said she came from Enugu state to Lagos to live with her aunt after the death of her father.
Her case has become so serious that she had to be referred to an NGO, Community Health Support and Empowerment Initiative, COHSAEI, which has taken up the challenge to rehabilitate her.
The little girl said she was lured into s*x by a man she called Baba who lived with her aunt in the same compound.
She said the man (Baba) usually called her to his apartment whenever his wife and her aunt were not around and will put his finger inside her private part.
“He will tell me to come back home immediately our school closes and when I reach home he will be waiting for me to finger my v*gina,” she narrated.
She said with time he started having real s*x with her.
She said when the man that initiated her into it moved out of their area, she resorted to meeting other men in the area without her aunt knowing.
She said she has become addicted to s*x and cannot do without it.
“When I desire s*x and I do not see anybody to do it in my area, I will go under the bridge and beg the touts to do it for me,” he said.
Her predicament came when she confessed to her teacher what she was going through after the teacher noticed some abnormal behaviour in her.
The teacher contacted her aunt who contacted an NGO for assistance.
The programme coordinator of the NGO, Mrs. Priscilla Ingbia, noted that her case was very pathetic because of her age. She said her group took up the challenge to rehabilitate her because it was clear if nothing was done urgently her future was in danger.
She said her organisation has started the process of rehabilitating her by carrying out series of tests on her to ascertain her health conditions.
Ingbia stressed the urgent need to relocate her from her present environment and start a new life for her.
She said her organisation has not been able to do so because of the financial cost of doing so.

Arabic word written in sand?

Going through a friend site and i came across this post and for a while i thought this was just a washed up sand heap but then a colleague said it was more that cos he  could read some of the words in Arabic.
This happened around the Sagamu area of Ogun state after a heavy downpour and thunder strike in the area. People surrounded the sand and almost turned it to a shrine.

I looked at the photo, looked at it, looked at it oooooo and I didn't see anything, so I asked them what was strange about it and they said what you see written in the sand is an Arabic word meaning Allah is Great. All our Muslim brothers and sisters, is that really what's written there?
