Williams runs riot against world No 1 Azarenka

Serena Williams overpowered the top-ranked Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-3 to win the Madrid Open on Sunday.

In a clash of two of the tour's heaviest hitters, Williams battered Azarenka around the new blue-clay court with her big serve and vicious return to take the first four games and never look back. Williams served 14 aces on her way to avenging her only loss in six previous meetings with Azarenka when she fell to the Belarusian in the 2009 final in Miami.
It was the 30-year-old Williams' 41st title and second of the season as she remained unbeaten in her last 13 matches on clay. The loss ended Azarenka's run of winning her last four tournaments.

'I can still do better,' Williams said when asked if she had found her best form following her return from a yearlong absence due to illness in 2011. 'This is really good. I have been working hard. I had some tough battles and really unfortunate circumstances so I really love this.'

Man Arrested For Beating A Widow Till Her Teeth Fell Off (PHOTO)

A middle age man, Monday Ekpo, is in police custody for allegedly assaulting his neighbour and removing her front teeth. The suspect was arrested at the weekend following complaint by one Ebere Ogbonna that Ekpo beat her following her refusal to date him Ogbonna, a widow and a mother of nine, told police officers that Ekpo had threatened to kill her following her refusal to date him. "I lost my husband some years back and I have been struggling to fend for my nine boys," she said.

"I had twins three times, and since their father died I have catered for them. Sometime last year, Monday asked me to date him but I refused. For more than three occasions, he attempted to rape me in my one room apartment. We are neighbours. He was bent on sleeping with me but I told him I was not interested; this angered him and he told me he will make my life a living hell."

The victim said her initial efforts to involve officers of the Iponri Police Station proved abortive as Ekpo is said to be a leader of a youth gang in the area. "On April 5th, I attended a friend’s child naming ceremony, Monday was there and he attacked me saying that he was the chairman and I should leave," she said. "He pushed and shoved me out of the room, and as I resisted him, he slapped me on the face.

I went to report him to the elders in the community and as they called him to warn him from assaulting me, Monday descended on me and beat me to a stupor. Sympathisers took me to the hospital where I later woke up and found out that Monday had removed my three teeth." Agbodimu Musbau, the Community Development Association Chairman of the area, said residents of the community were appalled by the incident. "Ebere is a widow and also a member of the vigilante group in the area," he said.

"When the matter was reported, we took it up and arrested Monday and handed him over to the police at the Iponri Police Station, but we were shocked when Monday was released the same day as his gang went to the police station to threaten the officers to release him or face their wrath. It was even sad when Monday started bragging that no police man in the area can arrest him, so that was why we brought the matter to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police so that we can get justice and we are happy that the commissioner, Umar Manko, acted prompted and Monday and the IPO have been detained over the assault of a helpless widow."

REVENGE? Husband r*pes niece to punish wife

A man raped his 10-year-old niece to get back to his wife. After the incident, the man went back and told his wife about what he had done, however, the wife filed a complaint with the authorities only when the husband threatened to divorce her a few days later.

The husband was tired of his wife’s nagging. He took his anger out on his 10-year-old neice. He went to his wife’s brother’s place and took the little girl to their terrace on some pretext. He gagged and raped her there, reveals The Times of India. His wife did not reveal the truth even after her husband gloated about it to her.

It was only when he threatened to divorce her a few days later that she went to the police. The child’s parents also did not know anything about the incident. Medical reports confirmed that the girl had been sexually abused. The reports also revealed that the man had inflicted burn wounds in her private parts.

Cameroonian Artists Protest Against Psquare Concert In Yaounde

Cameroonian artists under the canopy of Syndicat Camerounais de musicien (SYCAMU) have aired out their grievances against the mobile network service provider MTN for paying huge amounts of money to foreign artists to perform meanwhile Cameroonian artists wallow in abject pernury, often humbled to receive meagre sums of money for concerts.

They consider this a typical evidence of capital flight which contradicts the 8th May 2012 communique . SYCAMU president, Romeo Dika vented his dissatisfaction saying it is absolutely unfair for a mobile network company to pay 200 or 300 million CFA to foreign artists and can’t pay such sums to local artists.

The union is therefore planning a public manisfestation against MTN on May 18th , the date scheduled for the P SQUARE concert. Concertation meetings are ongoing with the Minister of Arts and Culture ,Ama Tutu Muna and the authority incharged of copyrights SOCAM. Remember it’s not been long the same union fired a bullet on MTN for involvement in piracy.

Fear Of Revolution Made Governors Abandon Jonathan

The seven-day protests and strikes embarked upon by organised labour and civil society groups in January forced most governors to abandon President Goodluck Jonathan despite the plan they had with him to withdraw the fuel subsidy, investigations have revealed. Findings by our correspondents showed that although most governors were party to the decision to withdraw the subsidy, they distanced themselves from the policy because of the fear that the protests could lead to a revolution similar to the Arab spring.

Before the protests, there had been demonstrations in some Arab countries that eventually led to the ouster of their leaders. The uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and other Arab nations were dubbed the “Arab Spring.” A cross-section of the governors told our correspondents that they had to abandon the President because they did not want what happened in these countries to repeat itself in Nigeria. Jonathan had on May 7, said the governors abandoned him during the protests against the removal of the subsidy.

However, some governors said they were not happy that President publicly said they abandoned him during the subsidy protests. One of the governors from the South-East, who pleaded anonymity, said he and some of his colleagues decided to dump the President when it was obvious that Nigerians opposed the issue. According to him, after analysing the security implications of the strike and street protests that were going on in different parts of the country then, the governors felt that the best way out of the logjam was to reach a compromise.

He said, “You know we did not put ourselves in office, we were elected by the people. This is not a military government. If you are doing something on behalf of the people you are leading and they say ‘no, don’t do it; we did not send you to do that,’ what do you do? “The best thing for us to do at that time was to stop that action and return to the people who have the sovereignty. That is democracy in action. We didn’t expect the President to go to newspapers and the television stations to say governors let him down.

“All of us sat down and looked at the implications of the civil unrest that was ongoing at that time. We were afraid because the country was heading for its own type of Arab spring. Leaders should also learn from the followers. As at that time, we needed to learn from the people we were and still leading.” Also commenting on the president’s statement, the Enugu State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime, said he had earlier supported the removal of fuel subsidy because it was the agreed decision at the Governors’ Forum but that the decision was later changed.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Chukwudi Achier, said, “The governor, from day one, made his stance known on this matter. He has repeatedly said he would always be part of any decision taken by the governors. “So if the governors decided that they would switch from their initial position, the governor would definitely be part of it. The forum speaks with one voice, so our governor is automatically part of any decision taken by it since he is a member.” In Rivers State, a top official of the state government defended Governor Rotimi Ameachi against the president’s allegation.

“The Federal Government takes the lion’s share of the funds that accrue to the country and it is not delivering. “Let it face the issue of subsidy and not blame governors. It is not a hidden fact that the Federal Government has not been allowing states to perform. Take for an instance the power project in the state; it is not a hidden fact that the Federal Government has not allowed the state to distribute the power it (Rivers) has been able to generate.”

The Action Congress of Nigeria governors, however, distanced themselves from the joint decision to remove fuel subsidy. The Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, said his administration never supported the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. Speaking through the Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Mr. Ajibola Bashiru, he said, “All ACN governors in the South-West were opposed to fuel subsidy removal. Why did fuel subsidy become a serious matter in an election year? “What the Federal Government needs to do is to clean the oil sector.

The Federal Government should overhaul old refineries and build new refineries. It is absurd to import oil when we are an oil producing nation. The energy problem militating against industrial investment should be resolved too.” Also, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the president had no right to blame anybody for the failure of his policy. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, who spoke with our correspondents in Ado-Ekiti on behalf of his boss, said the subsidy removal policy was the policy of the president.

He said, “The president being the number one person in the country and the head of government should not blame any governor for his administration’s policy. The buck stops on his table.” The Federal Government had on January 1 announced the removal of fuel subsidy. As a result, the price of petrol was increased from N65 to N144. The price hike was followed by seven-day protests in the South-West, North and parts of the South-South, by organised labour and civil rights groups, especially, the Save Nigeria Group.

Woman Gives Birth To LIVE Monkey In Benue State

It sure sounds unbelievable, but a young Nigerian woman has been delivered of a monkey-like monster in Otukpo, a popular town in Benue State. The outré event took place recently at St Theresa Hospital, Otukpo, when the woman said to be the wife of a hunter from Oju Local Government Area of the state gave birth to a creature that looks like a monkey.

The strange delivery, we gathered came as a surprise to the already mother of nine the who had successfully delivered nine children in the past and was having her 10th child before the strange creature visited her. According to an eyewitness, when the news broke out, residents of the town, especially those at the nearby Otukpo main market rushed to the hospital to see for themselves.

Describing the strange development as conginental malformation, Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Stanley Bwala said the malformation could have been forestalled if the woman was attending antenatal care regularly and advised pregnant women to always avail themselves to routine ante natal treatment.

However, it was gathered that as soon as the hunter heard about the delivery, he came and removed the monster from the hospital, even as observers believed the abnormal birth was a usual occurrence to hunters who have killed several animals during hunting. In a brief chat with elder Adah Okoh, a traditional ruler in the area, he noted that in the Idoma tradition, such child should not be allowed to stay with the mother for fear of reincarnation. Asked if the monster should be buried alive or killed, elder Okoh said that should be left for the family to decide.

How Often Do You Really Need to Wash Your Jeans?

Some good news for those of us who detest doing laundry: we might be able to get away with doing less. While it's important to keep our clothes in good condition so they'll last us longer, experts say constant laundering may not always be the most cost-effective way.
From jeans to jeggings to skirts and bras, we tapped Mary Kate McGrath, senior editor at Real Simple to share some wisdom on when to wash it:

 Denim
Good durable denim is excellent at masking dirt, so you can wear it several times before tossing it in the hamper. In fact, McGrath says, over-washing can cause jeans to fade and fray so when you do wash them, turn them inside out, use cold water, and line dry. They'll be a bit stiff at first, but for the mileage you'll get, it's worth it.
One exception is jeggings, or jean leggings. These contain spandex, so wash after every wear to prevent the knees from getting baggy. Then, lay flat to dry.

Dress Pants & Khakis
Because you're likely to wear dress pants in a climate-controlled office, you can easily get four to five wears before needing to wash them, especially if you make a habit out of changing after work. But, McGrath says, if your dress pants are part of a suit, dig out the matching jacket as well, even if it's not dirty. Dry-clean them both at the same time.
"Suits should last you upwards of ten years," says McGrath. "It may sound counter-intuitive, but it's best to actually launder the separates together, even if you've just worn the jacket or just worn the pants. You'll definitely see less fading."
Light-colored pants like khakis are more vulnerable to dirt, so like with any clothing, treat stains immediately using stain remover wipes.

Skirts
"Assuming you're not doing anything strenuous with a skirt, you can actually get a few wears out of it [before washing]," says McRath, especially A-line or bubble skirts that don't really skim the body too much.
Blazers
Typically layered over a blouse or camisole, blazers don't require much upkeep, either, though your jacket could retain odors from food, smoke or perfume. Air yours out by a window, or spritz with laundry spray before placing back in your closet.
Intimates
Since bras don't come into direct contact with your underarms, they can withstand a few wears, but since elastic needs about 24 hours to recover, it's best to rotate through lingerie and avoid wearing the same bra two days in a row.
Nightgowns and Pajamas
"People tend to sweat and shed skin cells at night more often than they think so a good rule of thumb is to wash pajamas twice as often as you wash your sheets," says McRath.

Tops and Dresses
The key is to keep tops and dresses stain-free by not overusing deodorant, and giving them a close inspection before ironing so stains don't set in. One exception is if your dress is formal or semi-formal. In that case, you want to dry-clean after each outing to avoid having stains set in, in between wears.

Swimsuits
Salt and chlorine will eat away at the fibers and stretch swimsuits pre-maturely. Hand-washing yours with cool water and a gentle detergent and letting it air-dry will keep it in good shape.
Tees, Tanks and Camisoles
These tops have direct contact with your body, so they should be treated like undergarments, as well. Wash these pieces often and in hot water.

70-year-old virgin says she’s finally ready for love

The 2005 film "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," grossed nearly $200 million worldwide based on the premise of a man who went without sex into midlife. But one real-life woman has managed to stay a virgin up to her 70th birthday.
That could be about to change. "Now's the time. I'm ready to take the plunge for the right bloke," Pam Shaw tells the Sun."My standards are still very high, though. I'm hoping to bag a tall, dark and handsome millionaire."

Shaw says she doesn't believe in sex before marriage and has been too busy with her career as a cabaret dance to settle down. "I feel I am ready to give marriage a go and maybe go to bed with a man," she said. "You are never too old for anything. Just look at Joan Collins."
According to worldwide statistics, the average person retains his or her virginity until 17.3 years of age. A 2010 Yahoo! reader survey found similar numbers, with readers giving an average age of 17.5 before having sex for the first time.

The paper notes that despite her voluntary lifelong abstinence, Shaw goes by the stage name "The Sexational Pam," and once fraternized with male sex symbols like "It's Not Unusual" singer Tom Jones and James Bond actor Roger Moore.

"Tom Jones was very good looking and we used to chat occasionally before I went on stage as the opening act," she said. "In the late 60s we performed together. There was only a curtain separating our dressing areas."

Shaw says she lived with her mother until she passed away at the age of 97 in 1995. Ironically, Shaw says men have often made incorrect assumptions about her sex life, or lack thereof, because of her career in the entertainment industry.
"I've never really been intimate with a man, just a bit of kissing. I had a sexy stage name and dressed sexy but that was all for my career," she said.
