‘131 killed in auto crashes in Kogi’

One hundred and thirty one people were killed in auto crashes that occurred in Kogi State in the past four months, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) Michael Olapade has said. The sector commander, who spoke with Daily Trust in Lokoja yesterday said 1,582 passengers were involved in the 189 accidents that occurred across the state in the period under review.

“Out of the 1,582 people involved in the accidents, 131 died, 748 were injured while the others escaped unhurt. Thirty one people died in the month of January, 46 in February, 26 in March while 28 died in the month of April,” he said.

Olapade attributed the accidents to over speeding, dangerous driving as well as break failure and tyre burst among others. He warned motorists to desist from reckless driving so as to stay alive. According to him, the command has intensified public enlightenment to ensure that motorists change their attitudes.
