Unknown gunmen struck yet again in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday gunning down four people and injuring two others.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen sprayed the bus in which the victims were travelling with bullets near Fang village around 5.30 pm, killing four people in the process.
The two others who were seriously injured were rushed to Vom Christian Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. The eyewitnesses alleged that the gunmen wore military uniforms but gave no further details.
Condemning the killing, the member representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Daniel Dem, described it as barbaric and unacceptable.
He identified the deceased whom he said were travelling to Fang village as Markus Davou, the driver, Gyang Pius, Yohanna Bature and Monday Kentong. He added that Samuel Umaru and Keneng Pius were hospitalized for injuries sustained.
Also confirming the killing, Media Officer of the Special Task Force in the state, Captain Salisu Mustapha appealed to the people to remain calm while investigation into the matter was carried out by security agencies.
Two people were just last week gunned down at Du in Jos South Local government Area also by unknown gunmen, sparking protests from women and youths, who condemned the arrest of nine members of the village’s local guards by soldiers as they came out in pursuit of the attackers.
Monday’s incident again generated tension as youths in different parts of Riyom and Jos South local government areas gathered, lamenting the repeated attacks on their people.
